Epoxy tile miters

A mitered corner is two pieces of stone cut at matching angles so they meet without a visible edge. On smooth tile that takes precision. On textured, porous stone like lava stone, a plain epoxy seam still stands out as a clean line running through a surface that’s anything but clean.

Lava stone epoxy miter with micro holes recreated in the seam, by Floors of Glory

We recreate the texture in the seam

On this lava stone corner, we went a step further. After joining the miter with epoxy, we purposefully recreated the lava stone’s natural micro holes in the epoxy itself. So the seam has the same pitted texture as the stone on either side, and the corner reads as one solid block instead of two pieces glued together.

Why an epoxy miter matters

  • The corner looks like it was carved from a single piece of stone.
  • Epoxy gives the joint strength and durability that standard grout or caulk can’t match.
  • It works on countertop edges, shower benches and niches, column wraps, steps, and fireplace surrounds.

Built on preparation

Every miter starts with dry-fitting and measuring to a fraction of an inch. A miter can only look seamless if the cut, the angle and the substrate behind it are all right. Why we use epoxy · Where we work.

Tile miters instead of trim strips

Most outside tile corners get a metal or plastic edge strip, or a rounded bullnose piece. A tile miter skips both. Each piece is cut at a matching angle so the face of the tile wraps the corner, and the pattern or veining carries straight around it with no trim line. We miter shower half walls and curbs, niches, benches, column wraps, steps and fireplace surrounds, in tile, porcelain and natural stone.

Tile Miter FAQ

What is a tile miter?

Two pieces of tile or stone cut at matching angles so they meet at the corner with no visible edge piece. Done right, the corner looks like one solid piece.

Is a mitered edge better than metal trim?

A miter gives a cleaner, higher-end look because there is no trim line. It also takes more skill: the cuts have to be exact and the wall behind the corner has to be flat and square, or the joint opens up. That’s why we level and prep walls before any tile is installed.

Why finish a miter with epoxy?

Epoxy gives the joint strength and durability that standard grout or caulk can’t match, and it can be colored or textured to blend into the tile. More on epoxy.
